When you contact me to make an appointment I’ll take some basic details from you and arrange a mutually convenient time to meet for the first session.
This first session will provide an initial opportunity to understand what has brought you to therapy at this particular point in time. We will also explore together what you want to get from it, if you know at this point – it might simply be that you don’t want to carry on feeling the way you do. Choosing the correct therapist is important, so it is an opportunity to see if working together is the best option for you.
Individual sessions are 50 minutes. Sessions for couples are 55 minutes.
Normally we would then meet weekly at the same time, however, we can arrange a different schedule if required. For couples it is often useful to have enough time in between sessions to work on what has been discussed.
I work on an open ended basis for as many or few sessions as you need. This means there is no fixed number of sessions, unless you have a specific budget or number of sessions in mind, or have been referred by an organisation such as an Employee Assistance Programme or your GP, where a certain number of sessions may be specified.
The number of sessions you need depends on your goals, aims and personal situation. Reviewing these and when to end is part of the ongoing process.
